The RBT is a certification, not a competition. You train, prove your skills in practice, then apply to the BACB. The final exam is pass or fail, and it is the step you can really study for.

   Step 1 of 5: 40-hour training program

   A qualifying program of 40 hours. You need its certificate to apply.

   Step 2 of 5: Initial Competency Assessment

   You show your skills in a practical, assessed demonstration. You must pass it.

   Step 3 of 5: Background checks

   A criminal background check and an abuse registry check. You must pass both.

   Step 4 of 5: Application to the BACB

   You must be 18 or older with a high school education. The fee is $65. Once approved, you have one year to take the exam.

   Step 5 of 5: RBT Examination

   85 multiple-choice questions, 75 of them scored. In English, at a Pearson VUE test center. Booking costs $45.
